on Community Preparedness

Building Community Resiliency for
Limited English Proficient (LEP) & Minority Communities.

On March 9th, 2022, NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) hosted their annual symposium on community preparedness. Hosted virtually, an estimated 300+ people from around the world joined into the event with four speakers.

The presentation discussed the application of emergency management phases in community-based organizations, problems that were made worse through disasters, and the limited resources available to certain communities depending on their socioeconomic status.

Recommendations included creating a partnership or mutual-aid agreements between organizations to better serve the community with quick and efficient communication and assistance. Other recommendations stated government agencies should rely more on their private CBO counterparts to reach out to affected communities.
