Joseph Y. Yun, MPA

Joseph Yun, a Queens, NY native, spent his childhood on the East Coast before moving to the Midwest. He returned to New York to attend the School of Visual Arts and graduated with a B.F.A in Computer Art. After graduating, he freelanced with multiple studios and worked on major feature films and high budget commercials during this time.

Currently, Joseph is employed with NYC’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) as an Emergency Manager. His work focuses on protecting the water and sewer systems that keep NYC safe and secure. Previously, he worked in community based non-profit organizations, to which he was exposed to from a young age, starting in 2015 which led him to working as an Operations Manager and later as a Special Projects Manager. Feeling a need for further education, Joseph attended and received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Public Policy and Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) with a specialization in Emergency Management. He hopes to continue to work more closely in policy and direct agency work within the emergency management field to create safer and more resilient communities. His interest in emergency management originated from his love for the outdoors and camping that provided the knowledge of the amazing yet often dangerous forces brought on by Mother Nature.

Joseph is also a graduate of the 2021-2022 Class of the John D. Solomon Fellowship for Public Service as a graduate fellow and was placed with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection BWSO Emergency Management division.
